We are experiencing a gigantic upheaval; a virus has revealed, among other things, extreme xenophobia. So we ask ourselves: what is the place of a community, a network, a group, a family in this context? Heroines was created in 2019 with the naive but affirmed idea that an international and interdisciplinary network of women would invent collectively new forms of exhibition. Together we can dream up new stimuli for the audience, with new kinds of interviews, new approaches to testimonials. In this society where we are all locked up inside ourselves, we seek to empower the participants and help everyone open up. We conflate secrecy and intimacy, thinking that we make our own decisions, when actually societal pressures make us shy, quiet, fearful, ashamed.
The pandemic era may affect the community-building momentum of Heroines; but isn't it an incredible coincidence, when our exhibitions focus on isolation, on enclosure, on what we hide?
316 women from 40 countries expressed their desire to be heard, to exist, to share. Our mailbox trembled this summer, in the face of so many powerful voices. We thank them all and we dedicate this exhibition to them, weaving a dialogue between 31 women from 23 countries who would have never met without this project. And yet, they express a common sound. And all together are united by the curating of this exhibition.

This is the second edition of The Enclosed Garden,
a nighttime exhibition that happens every year in a country where        women are not free to express themselves.

Start the journey AT NIGHT (room1) where we all explore our intense memories. Then, when the sun rises, look at your own mind, your body in the mirror of the bathroom (room2) and discover on the MORNING feelings of disembodiment . After this introspection, open yourself to the world when the sun sets and exchange (room3).

THE ENCLOSED GARDEN IS FULL
